Bucks Naked BBQ - Freeport, ME

I have been on vacation since the beginning of August, a well deserved one after the events of July! During the past few days my son and I were at our family cottage off the coast of Maine. For the past year, while traveling to our cottage, I have seen what looked like a Barbecue joint located on old route 1 in Freeport.

Because I'm still vacationing, I don't have my usual cramped timetable, which gave us the opportunity to stop and check the place out even though it was late in the evening.

The joint is called "Bucks Naked BBQ", and it is located in Freeport, Maine. It's a small place, with your typical BBQ joint ambiance. The reason I even noticed the place was there was because the Lang Smoker parked behind it next I-295.

My boy and I stopped in, sat outside in the setting sun and had us some darned fine barbecue! I ordered us a sampler of their pork ribs, and for myself I got a pulled pork sandwich with beans and cornbread. The boy can't resist a corn dog, so he went with the corn dog and the cornbread.

The food was excellent! I particularly liked the pulled pork. The ribs were good, but I had better ribs from Team Lunch Meat at the Harpoon contest. Prices at Bucks were reasonable. I also got a couple of their sauces, although they are packed in deli containers not sealed bottles like you'd get from the store. Their house sauce tastes a lot like it has a spice rub similar to my Hog Eatin' Rub in it. I should be able to copy it pretty easily I think. They also offered a Maine Blueberry sauce that was pretty good too.

If you find yourself on I-295 near Freeport, and you're looking for some good food, I suggest you give them a try!

Dont make me hungry.

Hey, if you like BBQ'in, you'll like this tool a LOT.

My father-in-law has invented a new tool called "The WienerStick". It's a comb shaped object which sits on one's bbq turning the two dimensional cooking surface into a three dimensional experience. Actually works quite well. It is made of surgical stainless steel, and essentially cooks the food from the inside out, preventing the need for constant turning or burning.

Go ahead and check it out. http://www.wienertec.com

You can also enter a draw for a free WienerStick.

Not impressed at all at bucks. Service was'nt good, although the outstanding wage paid there must really inspire the help to do the're best. Food-on a scale between 1 & 10-I rate them a 2, and that's only because they were open. Owner does not act in a professional manner. Who ever fronted the money for this place should have their head examined.

Interesting. It could be that I'm simply so starved for authentic BBQ in New England that I simply have no basis for what's good authentic stuff and what isn't.

At some point in my life there will be a month long tour of BBQ states! Then, perhaps, I'll be a good judge!

Hey - When you goona update this blog?

I agree Buck's is fantastic. I have continually experienced GREAT service and outstanding BBQ there. Sounds to me like 'anonymous' helped himself to a large portion of sour grapes and missed the BBQ altogether...so sad.

I found your chat area by chance, looking for info on some night time entertainment at buck's on Mon. nights. Here's my two cents. I've lived all over the U.S. from west coast to east coast. I've found that there is all kinds of BBQ from Texas to Memphis to Caralina's. I don't know what style Buck's would consider they are, but I would say "their pretty darn good!" I've been there several times and the people & food wer great.

Buc's is awesome!!! Food is great and the people are great!!! And....they just reopened in their bigger location...still on Route 1 but opposite end!!! Its alot bigger...amazing...you have to check it out!!!!!!
